New to Notts: Ottar and Green Haus at Nottingham Contemporary

It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of Green Haus Plant Shop and Ottar Chocolate. I’ve been a regular visitor to their pop-ups across Nottingham and have featured both of them on the blog quite a bit. So when I heard that they were both going to be setting up permanently at the Nottingham Contemporary, I couldn’t wait to go down.

If you haven’t made it to one of Ottar’s sit down pop-ups but have sampled their delicious chocolates, let me reassure you that their lunches and snacks are just as delicious as their sweet treats! However, if you’ve never heard of Ottar before you’re Nottingham food options are about to get 100% better.

Ottar’s menu at the Nottingham Contemporary offers up a range of all day breakfast items such as toasted tropical teacakes with butter and lemon curd, alongside a lunch menu that’s served 12 – 3pm. There is also a snack menu and the best bit, a children’s menu! Which means we can take the little one once she is weened 🙂

Tom went for the hummus, coriander oil, pickled red onions, leaves and bread and I had feta, tomato and red onion tart.

One of the great things I noticed about today’s menu was that not only were many of the ingredients seasonal and locally sourced, but there were also lots of options for those with dietary requirements. This is ideal for me at the moment because the more pregnant I get, the more stuff I’m finding I can’t eat.

Of course there is also a range of Ottar chocolates and pastries on offer so it would make a great place to just visit for cake and coffee (Outpost) or even a British bean to bar hot chocolate as we move into Autumn.

It was a really nice atmosphere in the Contemporary’s Cafe space with a nice mix of families, couples and people working/catching up on emails. We were lucky that it was nice and sunny as well which makes the space even more lovely as it benefits from floor to ceiling glass along one wall, so the room is flooded with light.

I am so excited that new cafe is also the permanent home of Green Haus Plant Shop meaning that the plant lovers of Nottingham don’t have to wait for one of Green Hauses amazing pop ups to get their hands on some fantastic indoor plants!

There’s a whole wall full of some of the coolest house plants you’re going to find. The stock is going to be refreshed weekly so there’ll be loads of choice and a weekly reason to keep popping back. If you’ve not visited a Green Haus Pop Up before check out my Green Haus Q&A blog to see what they’re all about.

Great food, great cakes, great plants – what more could you want? I highly recommend.
